Miles Rudman, the reigning Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres Champion, is once again celebrating this week after being presented with the prestigious ‘President’s Cup’ at the annual British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) Awards.
Sutton Coldfield racer Rudman, who put together a sensational campaign in Legends Cars last year to claim his second overall championship with an incredible 17 race victories, was awarded the President’s Cup as the BARC’s most successful driver below international level.
The accolade is another richly deserved one for Rudman who, since winning his maiden Legends Cars crown in 2019 during the championship’s landmark 25th anniversary season, has become firmly established as one of the most decorated drivers in the all-action category’s history.
This year’s BARC Awards Evening, which took place at Old Thorns Hotel in Liphook on Saturday, 26th February, marked the first since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was a huge success with more than 250 guests in attendance. Inimitable compere Alan Hyde hosted the evening.
“I’m absolutely shocked, I can’t believe that I’ve won it [the President’s Cup] and what a fabulous trophy to receive – it’s such an honour”, said an overjoyed Rudman, “It’s fair to say I had a good season to be honest, it’s been fantastic – no complaints. I was on top form all the time, I was hungry to get the championship back and take it home.
“Legends Cars always brings entertainment with it, it’s so close and you never know who’s going to win. It’s all about picking the right time [in the races] and making sure you’re in the right place, it’s dead competitive and a great formula to race.
“We’ll be going for a third [championship] this year, I’m just going to keep it the same as last year but there will be more people trying to challenge. Legends is always competitive and there are loads of fast guys out there that will bring it to me. I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait to defend it.”
Championship owner Phil Cooper, who was memorably awarded the Gerry Marshall Trophy at the 2019 BARC Awards to honour his long-standing commitment to motorsport and the philosophy he has for racing, is delighted to see Rudman presented with this year’s President’s Cup.
“Miles thoroughly deserves this fantastic recognition from the BARC and I’m absolutely elated to see his outstanding season rewarded with such a prestigious trophy”, Cooper said, “Winning 17 races over the course of a season in a category as competitive as the Legends Cars National Championship is no mean feat, an incredible performance.
“As our reigning champion, we’re obviously delighted Miles is going to be back to defend the title this season. He faces a lot of fantastically talented competition, with huge strength in depth in the championship, but you certainly wouldn’t bet against him winning a third crown. It’s set to be yet another outstanding season, a packed grid and the very best race action.”
