Only two events now remain in the incredible 2026 Legends Cars Championship season, and as the ultra-competitive pocket rockets prepare to head to Oulton Park for US Autoshow next Saturday, 22nd August, the one-day event is likely to have a pivotal bearing on this year’s title race.

Following a truly remarkable outing at the USA Snetterton 300 meeting in Norfolk at the end of July, where he delivered five sensational wins from six races, Chris Needham (Altrincham) sits atop the championship table and brings strong confidence into round 11 of the campaign.

As the trip to the picturesque Oulton Park is a single day meeting, only three races will be contested around the full International Circuit layout – but they could prove to be some of the most important of the year.

Needham carries an advantage of 80 points to his local track over reigning Legends Cars Champion, and newly crowned Legends Cars Elite Cup Champion, Tyler Read (Daventry) who wrapped up the ‘championship within a championship’ at Snetterton last time out.

With 200 points for a victory in Legends Cars, this of course means there will be a maximum of 600 up for grabs across next Saturday’s racing and so there is a lot to potentially be gained – and equally a lot to be lost – before the series finale at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit in September. Notably, Needham’s prowess at Snetterton means he has 11 race wins this season versus six for Read.

Behind the top two, first year Legends Cars racer Aaron Cooke (Croxley Green) heads the chasing pack in third place and is more than capable of scoring big at Oulton. Having taken seven victories thus far in 2026, Cooke has a deficit of 150 points to Read going into the penultimate event.

There is then a gap of just 90 points back to Oli Schlup (Cuckfield), a three time winner at Brands Hatch mid-season, and he completes the fearless foursome most likely to be fighting it out for overall title honours.

Mathematically though, Masters Cup class leader Peter Barrable (Dublin), who successfully defended his Masters crown in this year’s Elite Cup, Luke Simmons (Lingfield), Marcus Pett (Boston) and Andy Bird (Calne) are all still in the mix.

Barrable and fellow Masters class runner Bird are both outright race winners this season, while Simmons and Pett most certainly have the capability of taking victories – each of them past winners in Legends Cars.

In terms of the Masters battle Barrable holds an advantage of 365 points over Bird, while third placed John Mickel (Copthorne) is a further 740 points adrift of second place but only 280 ahead of Nick Price (March). Nathan Williams (Higher Bebington) is the sole driver eligible for the Rookie Cup this year, and a very strong season sees him 12th in the overall standings ahead of his home event.

Last season’s visit to Cheshire was also the penultimate meeting of the campaign, in which Read raced to two victories and Matt Knight (Shoreham by Sea) claimed a memorable maiden Legends Cars win in the Final.

This time around, Knight goes into the Oulton Park event ninth in the overall championship and a fair chunk of points clear of Mickel – a five-time former Legends Cars Champion of course – Price and Williams. There truly is a huge amount to play for across next Saturday’s three encounters.

As always, the grids for the first two races – Heats One and Two – will be drawn by ballot rather than qualifying times, while the grid for the Final will be based on points scored across the first two races combined, albeit with the highest scorers at the back! That’s part of what makes Legends Cars such a breathtaking spectacle.

Qualifying practice will get the track action at Oulton Park underway at 08.30 on Saturday, 22nd August, with Heat One scheduled to start at 10.10, Heat Two following at 13.40 and the round 11 Final set to begin at 16.40.
