Britain’s fast and furious 5/8 scale pocket rockets of the Legends Cars Championship will be back in action at Brands Hatch in Kent this coming Saturday, 28th June, as round seven of the season takes place as part of the eagerly awaited Super Touring Power 3 event on the full Grand Prix Circuit layout.

Marking a new experience for the Legends drivers, who normally compete – as they did a fortnight ago at American Speedfest – on the shorter Indy Circuit configuration, the chance to race on the GP track at Brands is one which the entire grid is relishing the thought of.

For the first time this year the weekend’s action will be a single day affair, round seven of the Legends Cars Championship, and the three races which will be contested are going to be vital as the series enters its second half.

Last time out on the Indy Circuit, Tyler Read (Weedon) took over the Championship lead from Oli Schlup (Cuckfield) by 155 points – a weekend on which both were race winners. Third place in the standings heading to the GP Circuit is Connor Mills (Upminster), who is only 30 points shy of Schlup and another to win during American Speedfest.

Reigning, and two-time, Legends Cars Champion Will Gibson (Farnborough) is fourth and another 45 points behind Mills, while reigning Elite Cup Champion – the championship within a championship which will resume in August – Jack Parker (Wolverhampton) is more than 300 points adrift of Gibson.

Parker was another of the six race winners at Brands Hatch Indy two weeks ago, as was Chris Needham (Altrincham) who rounds out the present top six in the standings. The other race winner last time out was Peter Barrable (Dublin), a breakthrough maiden outright success for the Masters class runner.

If you’re new to Legends Cars racing, 200 points are awarded for a win in each race, 185 points for second, 170 for third and the points then reduce by 10 all the way down to 18th place. All other finishers score 10 points, drivers who have started a race but fail to finish pick up five points.

Also in the championship top 10 are Marcus Pett (Boston), Andy Bird (Calne) and Masters class points leader Stephen Treherne (Islington). Barrable is a mere 30 points behind Treherne after a strong showing at American Speedfest, he is 11th in the standings, with Ross Marshall (Stirling) not far behind either.

Rookie racer Owen Lawlor (Dublin) has been dominating the class thus far and, ahead of round seven, is 240 points to the good over Graham Butler (Rye). Lawlor and Butler are two of the 13 racers continuing to run the air-cooled Yamaha 1250cc engines, as opposed to the new water-cooled MT09 Yamaha engines favoured by the majority of competitors.

Nick Price (March) is the highest placed in the overall championship of the competitors running the air-cooled powerplant, an impressive 14th position and just 45 points behind the experienced Nick Bridgeman (Baldock) who runs the new water-cooled MT09.

Phil Cooper – Legends Cars Championship Owner:
“It’s great to be back in action so soon after we were last at Brands a couple of weeks ago, and it’s going to be a fantastic experience being part of Super Touring Power 3 with all of the touring cars from the halcyon Super Touring era. Racing on the Grand Prix Circuit will be a new challenge for the Legends Cars drivers, and one I’m sure they will absolutely love with some iconic corners.

“Being a single day meeting for us, the first of two this year, any driver who can take consistently big points across the three races will carry some big momentum into the final three events of the year, so scoring heavily will be very important. With six winners from six races last time on the Indy Circuit, let’s see if we can get three different winners on the GP track.”

Qualifying practice for the Legends Cars at Brands Hatch GP Circuit will get underway at 09.00 this Saturday, 28th June, with Heat One beginning at 12.00, Heat Two at 15.10 and the round seven Final is scheduled for 17.35.
